Boog and Barragan in the top ten
GP Loket (Czech)

Xavier Boog finished seventh overall and with his teammate Jonathan Barragan tenth of the event, both KRT riders secured a top ten finish during the 12th round of the FIM World MX1 Motocross Championship at Loket in the Czech Republic.

There was already indication that Boog s recent run of bad luck was due to end as he took a strong sixth place in Saturday s qualification race, but more rain on Sunday morning made the start something of a lottery and the French rider found himself eighth leaving turn one, a position he maintained to the finish as track condition made overtaking almost impossible. His Kawasaki got Boog out of the gate in second place in the second race, but after several races out of the limelight Xavier took some time to settle down into a rhythm and quickly found himself pushed back to seventh before he settled down to retain that place to the chequered flag. He is now a secure ninth in the championship and has a realistic chance of completing the season seventh.

Jonathan Barragan suffered from bad starts to finish 11th and 10th, but the Spaniard s resolution secured him a top ten placing overall in the GP too and reinforced his tenth placed ranking in the series.

Xavier Boog:”After several average GPs it was a good feeling to race twice in the top ten today. I had a very good start in the second moto, but instead of looking in front of me I was focused on my rivals chasing me and that was a mistake. After ten minutes three riders passed me on the same lap, and it took me a few laps to find my rhythm again. I got it back after a couple of laps to finish seventh, my best result since my third place in Sweden. Now I want to get some more good starts; that’s the best way to find the good rhythm and good results. I want to thank the team who never gave up believing in me, even if my results have not been as good as last year, and I am looking forward to the last three races, as I like all of these tracks.”

Jonathan Barragan: “I lost all my chances at the starts, and once more that was the key to the race. In the first race I was sixteenth behind Leok on lap one; we raced the entire moto together and I passed him in the middle of the race to finish eleventh. In the second race he took the holeshot and finished second, I started tenth and finished in that position. The start has always been important in MX1, but with the rain it was even more as there were not many lines on this track.”

Yves Demaria: “When Xavier started the second race in second position we were expecting a podium, as the start was so important today on this slippery track; he missed it unfortunately, but his race wasn’t so bad. Jonathan took bad starts here; this track is not so difficult, but you must not do any mistake as it’s very difficult to recover, and if you start in the pack you have no chance to get a good result.”

A second French title for Xavier

Coming to the last round of the French Elite Championship leader of the series, Xavier Boog had a perfect weekend in Gaillac Toulza. Winner of both heats, he grabbed the French title for the second year in a row, just one week prior the French Grand Prix.

With an advantage of thirteen points over his last rival Xavier could manage his lead, but the reigning champion had another tactic. He got the pole position and had in both races a perfect start, which allowed him to make a break with his rivals during the first laps. Improving his advantage to sixteen points after race one, Xavier was flying to the victory in the following race and collected his sixth heat win of the season. Crossing the finish line with a wheeling, with the fastest lap time in the race, Xavier collected his second consecutive title and a bonus of 20000 €! He will now prepare with serenity the French Grand Prix in Saint Jean d’Angely, fifth round of the FIM World Championship.

Xavier Boog: “Nothing was done before the start of the last race, but this morning I was able to post some fast laps and got the pole position. I had great starts today, and found straight the good rhythm so I was able to make a gap with my rivals. This second title is a reward for me, but also for the team and our partners and I’m delighted today. Now I will recover alongside Yves Demaria in South of France, and we’ll prepare the French Grand Prix; on Thursday we’ll test the 2012 Kawasaki, we already use the new chassis since the beginning of the season but I can’t wait to test it!”

Yves Demaria: “It’s always nice to win a title, especially when you race as Xavier did today. Now I would like to see him racing similarly every week-end, he was so fast and relax on the bike today! We’ll work hard together this week, we’ll stay focus on our goals and I hope that his home GP will be the opportunity for Xavier to show what he can do at the highest level. Everyone knows that he can do much better than what did so far in the Grand Prix!”

Thierry Chizat Suzzoni: “I want to congratulate Xavier for this title, which is always important for the rider and for the team. I hope that this title will help him to have more confidence in his potential, and to ride as his real level in the World Championship.”

Thierry Chizat Suzzoni leads Kawasaki Racing Team Europe

Co-owner of the KRTE for the past two years, Thierry Chizat Suzzoni has become the sole owner of the team following the decision of Roger Pourcel to sever his links with the team for personal reasons.
Thierry, a 48 year old businessman from Aix en Provence has been involved in World motocross for six years but had previously remained in the shadows: “I came into motocross in 2005, when Jean Jacques Luisetti and myself created the CLS Kawasaki team"
For 2008 a new exciting opportunity arose together with Roger Pourcel, to run team KRTE which meant a move into the premier MX1 class. The factory Kawasaki effort could still be based out of former owner Jan De Groots famous workshop facility in The Netherlands. "We prepared a multiple year programme and strategy together with Kawasaki Motors Europe and the Kawasaki factory in Japan. This was not always easy as we harmonized the differing habits and personalities within the team, but after two years we now feel that we have secured the future of the team and have a solid team structure,” explained Thierry who incidentally has not missed a Grand Prix throughout his six years of involvement in the sport.

The decision of his ex-partner will not alter anything in the team’s activity and future. “Since we made the team some people have left the squad and others have joined us, but that’s normal practice in a business which strives to be as strong as possible and works within a competitive environment. François Lemariey joined us in 2009 as team manager and gives the team a more organised approach, then Yves Demaria joined in the winter as sport director in order to help the riders find their best form in their training and at the races and so I’m convinced that both of them have helped us to be stronger, even if this has not yet shown itself completely in the results this season. We had some bad moments with the injuries to Sébastien Pourcel in 2009, and Jonathan Barragan last season, and it was tough to recover the loss of such talented riders within a short season; when we took the decision to sign a third rider for 2010 in case of such injuries we made a good choice with Xavier Boog as he secured the French title and finished seventh in the MX1 World Championship for the team. With two fit and healthy riders for 2011, obviously our expectations were very high but unfortunately the first part of the 2011 season has not been as successful as we had expected. We know that Jonathan has the potential to be on the podium again as he was already on it in Bulgaria this year at the first round and Xaviers time will come soon,” he surmised.

Now sole boss of the team, Thierry is confident for the future of the prestigious KRT team. “The team members remain motivated, and will continue to work in their calm and determined way. We try to offer the best surroundings to our riders, and Kawasaki gives us outstanding technical and financial support. A few weeks ago we received confirmation from Japan that both riders will race the French Grand Prix aboard the all new 2012 KX450F - SR model, and thus we are already working on these new bikes in preparation for that. In addition to this, over the past few years we have built a strong relationship with Kawasaki in the USA and they have given the team great support and information during the US GPs. Now we are impatient to see one – or both – of our riders on the GP podium at the next rounds of the World Championship! That would be the best reward for all our work and investment,” he concluded.

Steve Guttridge from Kawasaki Motors Europe added “KRTE has evolved substantially over the last few years and always with Thierry at the helm but it has been far from easy to achieve a quick success with key riders sustaining injuries, essentially finishing off their seasons! Even so the team is constantly working hard, learning and evolving as a team that is capable of fighting for in the MX1 World title for Kawasaki. For the French GP our riders Jonathan Barragan and Xavier Boog will be given an extra support as they will debut the all new 2012 KX450F-SR. This I think can also mark a new beginning for the team, so I encourage them to make the best possible results for the remainder of this season and wish them all the best of luck to realise this within their new structure.”

  Another double win for Barragan

Once more Jonathan Barragan had a perfect weekend on his home soil, as he dominates the fourth round of the Spanish Elite Championship. Winner of both races the Kawasaki KRT rider is strongly leading the series, as he won the eight races already organized.

While teammate Xavier Boog had no races this weekend, Jonathan Barragan was in Albaida near Valence, and enjoyed nice weather and hot temperatures. Fastest rider during the qualifying period, Jonathan did the first part of the opening race behind Campano but passed him later to win this heat easily. The beginning of the second heat was perfect for the spectators, who watch a great battle between Campano, Lozano, Butron and Barragan; once more Jonathan was the fastest rider, and he passed all his rivals to collect another trophy. With eight consecutive wins he scores the perfect total of 200 points, and leads Campano by more than fifty points before the next round scheduled in three weeks time in Alhama de Murcia.

Jonathan Barragan: “The track was very fast, and it was easy to make a mistake this weekend. We had some nice racing with Campano, Lozano and Butron, they were fast here but I beat them twice and I’m very happy. So far my results are very good since the beginning of the season, and my goal is to continue like this.”

Barragan and Boog shine in France

The fourth round of the French Elite Championship offered great results to the Kawasaki Racing Team, as Jonathan dominates the event and beats teammate Xavier Boog, who is now strongly leading the series.

With a third podium in a row Xavier, the reigning French champion, is the most consistent rider of the series and he increases in Gueugnon his advantage over his rivals. After a good start in the opening race Xavier came in second position behind Jonathan, but in the second lap he injured his left thumb on a jump. After twenty minutes his hand was painful, but Xavier kept his second place even if he lost a couple of seconds. Thanks to Yves Demaria advices and treatment, Xavier entered the second heat without pain and grabbed another runner up spot behind Jonathan who was the strongest today. Second in the timed practice session the Spaniard lead all the laps of both races, posted twice the fastest lap time and claimed his fourth win of the season! Concerning the championship, Xavier is now leading Aranda – who crashed and retired in the second heat – by thirty five points, with two more rounds to go.

[04.04.2011]
Xavier Boog: “It was not an easy day, this morning the track was slippery and I didn’t felt so comfortable. I was second in the first race but I had some troubles when I landed after a jump; it was bumpy and I damaged my left thumb on the handle bar. The pain came only in the last ten minutes; hopefully I had a good gap and kept my position. Before the second race I had some treatment and it was OK, I found some new lines on the track and got another second place. As Greg retired in the second race I’ve now a strong lead in the series, but there’s still for heats to go and I must stay focus.”

[04.04.2011]
Jonathan Barragan: “It was a good weekend; in Sommières I did the same results as Aranda but he won the overall, today I won both heats and my first French championship round. The track was nice, I got great start and had no troubles to win, which is always good before the first GP.”

Yves Demaria: “The final result is good for the team, but during the first heat we didn’t knew what the problem of Xavier was. We helped him to be ready for the second one, and with another strong performance he is now leading alone the series. I think that next week he will not have any more pain in his thumb; he will be ready for the GP as well as Jonathan who was impressive this weekend. Except during the timed practice session he was always leading his rivals, and this race was a good training session for him. It’s a pity that Seb is not with us after his injury, but everyone in the team is with him!”
